Family Fun Hikes

Loose the couch's grip and set down the remote. Get outside and get moving for fun and fitness. Hike the 1-mile loop of the Byron Shutz Nature Trail with Stephanie Acers, Youth Education Coordinator and naturalist. Each session will highlight a unique natural event depending on the grace of Mother Nature.

All participants must be able to hike one mile over mulched and mowed terrains. Waterproof footwear is highly recommended. Please consider your fitness level before registering fo the sessions. This trail is not stroller or wheelchair accessible. Hikes will be canceled if weather is severe or if trail conditions are hazardous. Dress for the weather and for walking. A pair of lightweight binoculars is highly recommended.

Garden Symposium

February 17-18, 2012
Grow the Good Life

Join gardening enthusiasts from across the region for tips and inspiration for "growing the good life" during the 2012 Kansas City Garden Symposium.
Activities include a full day of entertaining gardening inspiration with practical tips, techniques and hands-on information, plus a pre-symposium demonstration and dinner lecture.

Pre-Symposium Schedule:
9:00am Friday, Feb 17th at the Whole Foods Cooking Studio
Cooking workshop by Ellen Ogden "Savory Tarts"
6:00pm Friday, Feb 17th at Brio Tuscan Grille
After dinner program by Dan Heims "Plant Exciting New Perennials and Tropicals"

Books will also be available for sale at the Symposium.

Kids Club

Powell Gardens Kids Club hosts fun activities for children 5-12 from spring through fall. Monthly programs will feature guided walks and behind-the-scenes tours with plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with the plants and bugs that inhabit the Gardens natural world.

The Kids Club will meet from 10 to 11:30 am on second Saturdays of April through October. Parents must accompany children ages 7 and under.

New Kids Club members will receive a T-shirt. Renewing members will receive an Optic Wonder gadget. All members receive a great program and discounts in the gift shop on meeting days.

Nature Hikes

Seasonal Highlights On The Nature Trail

Keep the winter blues away and experience the beauty and mysteries of nature and the changing seasons. Hike the 3.25-mile Byron Shutz Nature Trail and back through the Rock & Waterfall and Island Gardens with Alan Branhagen, Director of Horticulture, naturalist and plantsman. Each session will highlight a unique natural event depending on the grace of Mother Nature.

All participants must be able to hike nearly four miles over mulched and mowed terrains. Waterproof footwear is highly recommended. Please consider your fitness level before registering for the sessions. Hikes will be canceled if weather is severe or if trail conditions are hazardous. Dress for the weather and for walking. A pair of lightweight binoculars is highly recommended.
